Hi Roger, welcome to the board.

This is part of The Bat! security settings - put simply, it lets you decide which linked images you want to display in your emails. As you may know, some HTML emails have images which are not actually sent with the email, but rather are linked from a remote server. This can be quite innocent, but it can also be used for not so innocent means, such as testing if spam to an email address is read - thus confirms the email address as being live, and therefore you get even more spam as a result.

The Download URL Manager lets you decide which linked emails are displayed on your computer...  in earlier versions of TB! these images were just never shown and all you saw was a red x where they should be, but it was realised that some images are wanted, and this gives you the option to decide which is which.

You can also whitelist and blacklist domains automatically, so for instance you can set it to always display images in emails from, e.g. Amazon or eBay, but not to display others without asking, or to always block images from domains which send you spam.

Hope this helps. Smiley Cool

Hi,

Sorry to have such a basic question.

I am running a trial version of The Bat and like what I see so far.

However, I have been unable to find any explanation of the pop up window titled Download URL Manager. Clearly this is a safety device and I am keen to make use of it but cannot understand how or what I should do.

Please can someone point me to an explanation so that I may make a final decison on whether or not to buy the full version?

Thanks,

Roger

Hi Colin, I've no experience of using Comodo or digital signing so can't offer any help I'm sorry.  Have you tried the Ritlabs support forum as they are more likely to be able to help. http://www.ritlabs.com/en/forum/

My experience isn't the same as that... if I leave messages on the server they come down again. There is also the mark as read setting - that might be a factor, have you checked that in your account settings?

OK, so I've now worked out how to digitally sign and that works really well.  Next problem, tried to encrypt as well and despite there being a certificate installed for the digital signature, when I try to send a message I get an error message "Cannot find a certificate to encrypt a message to <email>" - what am I doing wrong!  huh

Hi

Can someone help me configure a personal Comodo digital ID so that all my outgoing emails are digitally signed.  I have got as far as importing the certificate successfully, but cannot work out what other settings I need to change to get it to work.  Once it's working how will recipients of my emails know they're digitally signed?
Cheers, Colin

I don't believe this is true, Anne.  On another computer where I use TB! for a different account no matter how many times I check the mail (account is set to "Leave Messages on Server") each message is only retrieved once.  Also, if what you say were true, on the shared scenario, we would have multiple copies of the same message appearing in the Inbox instead of exactly two since both computers are set to check for mail every 10 minutes. We do have both computers set to "Leave Messages On Server" but, like I said, in another standalone TB! installation the duplicate-message problem does not happen even with this setting.  It must be something else causing the duplicate messages.

Retrieving messages fetches a copy of every message on your server - the fact that you've already had them won't stop them being downloaded again. This will repeat until your messages are actually deleted off the mail server.
